ColdStar Freight: Welcome

Providing Quality Food to Vancouver Island Neighbourhood Houses

Please join us for this 2004 Ethics in Action Award Winning Program! The goal of the project is to supply nutritious, whole foods to Vancouver Island Neighbourhood Houses & Community Centers. This will be used for meal preparation for those who cannot always afford proper nutrition.

How the Project Works:

Once a month ColdStar, with the help of other participating sponsors, donates food product. This delivery of bulk food items (chicken, cheese, eggs, meat, peanut butter, yogurt, bread, etc) is delivered to Blanshard Community Centre by ColdStar. It is here that a volunteer divides the donations into equal parts and the other Neighbourhood Houses come and collect their individual donations.

Form of Donations:

 • A monthly commitment to a specific food quantity
 • Food donations as they become available (close to expiry date, excess food, mislabeled, misshipped, etc.)
 • Cash donations to purchase food and kitchen items

ColdStar's Commitment:

 • ColdStar oversees the entire Community Food Project. We are committed to seeking out donations from like-minded business partners.
 • We will pick up your donation of food and ship it at no extra cost. We will ensure the monthly shipment of food to the Neighbourhood Houses is consistent and reliable.
 • ColdStar will track the usage of all donated foods by gathering the usage reports from the participating Neighbourhood Houses
 • Once per year, ColdStar will compile the data from the Neighbourhood Houses and submit a report to each sponsor.
 • Ensure that the donated food is not used in a 'food-bank' style operation. Each Neighbourhood House uses the donated food within their already existing programs.

How You Can Help:

 • Cash donation - cheque payable to ColdStar Freight c/o Community Food Project.
 • Committed monthly sponsor - Please contact Jennifer Hawes at 381-3399
 • As available food sponsor - Please contact Jennifer Hawes at 381-3399 when food is available.

All sponsors (cash or committed monthly donors) will be placed on ColdStar's website (Community Food Project page), receive a yearly report and will be in the Neighbourhood House's regular newsletters.

Important Note Regarding Liability: The B.C. Food Donor Encouragement Act (1997, chapter 8) frees you from liability regarding the donation or redistribution of food products, within certain limitations. Review Text of the Act.
